Understanding the ParaPathways Score Scale

310–350
Scaled Score Range
Both subtests use this same scale · Both scored independently
How the scale works Your raw score (number of correct answers) is converted to a scaled score using a statistical process called equating. This adjusts for differences in difficulty between exam forms, so a score of 332 means the same thing regardless of which version of the test you took. A raw score of approximately 33–35 out of 51 on R&W translates to about 332 scaled — but this varies by exam form.

⚠️
ParaPro (ETS 1755) retires September 1, 2026 — ParaPathways is the replacement

All states that required ParaPro for paraeducator certification must transition to ParaPathways (ETS 5757) by September 1, 2026. Both exams are currently accepted. Check whether your state has formally adopted ParaPathways or is still in the transition period.

FAQ

Passing Score — Common Questions

ETS recommends 332 for Reading & Writing (ETS 5758) and 334 for Mathematics (ETS 5759), on a 310–350 scaled score range. Most states adopt these thresholds, but states are permitted to set their own cut scores. Arkansas uses 324/325 and Minnesota uses 332 for both subtests.
Yes — you receive separate scaled scores for R&W and Mathematics, and you must meet the passing threshold on each subtest independently. A high Math score cannot compensate for a low R&W score. Some states accept partial passage (one subtest at a time) for certain paraeducator roles — check with your state DOE.
ParaPathways scores are valid for 10 years from your test date. Your official score report is available in your ETS account approximately 2–3 weeks after you test. Score reports can be sent directly to school districts through ETS.
You can retake the exam. Your score report will show which topic areas cost you the most points — use our weak area tracker and targeted drill pages to build a focused retake plan. There is no limit on the number of retakes, but a waiting period may apply between attempts.
